Welcome to my website, the home of Mike Relf music...

I am a guitarist, singer & musician based in the south of the U.K.
with an interest in jazz, rock & all contemporary styles of electric guitar.  I have a diverse background that spans an array of music styles &  instruments including orchestral brass, piano, percussion & singing. Right now, I play around 200 gigs a year, teach (both in schools & privately) and am an examiner for an international music grading board. I am also co-founder of JATW (Jazz At The Winchester) which is an ever growing jazz night in Bournemouth featuring acts from all over the UK.

I'm proud to be a regular in many of the souths finest venues and hold a number of current residencies. I have performed in places like the B.I.C., Poole Lighthouse Theatre and the London Astoria as well as festivals such as the Canary Wharf Jazz Festival. I have been lucky enough to work on musical theatre productions, big band jazz, small ensemble gigs, function, studio sessions, solo guitar arrangements, short film productions, solo performance, duo residencies, music production, collaborative song writing and more. I play gigs ranging from solo jazz & vocal through to duo/trio/quartet, function & party music and even big band jazz with the Bournemouth Jazz Orchestra. I keep my musical life busy and varied. Advice I freely share with my students.

As a teacher, my 'Advancing Guitar' concept has enabled me to cement some of my ideas into one structured system whilst also incorporating syllabus from schools like Rock School & Berklee. For more information about teaching, please contact me. As a musician, I aim to continually develop and often seek tuition from some of the best players in the industry. Most recently, I have been lucky to meet with Mike Outram, Chris Montague and Nir Felder. My students are encouraged to learn as much as possible for as long as possible. As the cliche goes; You don't have to be bad, to be better.

I'll try to keep the gigs page as up to date as possible but it may always be best to ask if you would like to see me perform. Just contact me and we'll take it from there.
